***UPDATED Sept. 6, 2022*** This article has been updated to reflect the cooling center times and locations for Sept. 7-9.

As the California heat wave continues, the City of Concord will continue to offer a place for people to cool off.

The Concord Senior Center, located at 2727 Parkside Cir., will continue to serve as a cooling center on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On Thursday and Friday, Sept. 8-9, the City will host its cooling center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Willow Pass Community Center, located at 2748 E. Olivera Rd.

Parks and Recreation staff members will supervise the cooling center. Visitors are encouraged to bring something quiet to do, like read or use earphones for their electronic devices, and bring their own snacks and drinks.

Other locations to cool off include shopping malls, libraries (please note: the Concord Library is currently closed for renovations), theaters, and restaurants.

Older adults and people with certain medical conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and taking certain medications, are more vulnerable to heat illness. Everyone is encouraged to stay indoors and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

For more information on finding a cooling center in the County and how to take safety precautions, visit cchealth.org/heat or call 1-800-510-2020 or 925-229-8434.
