Smoking Prohibited in Multiunit Housing

No smoking_graphic

Earlier this year, the Concord City Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting smoking and vaping in and around multiunit and attached housing units. This restriction applies to both interior and exterior areas (patios, balconies, decks or porches) of rental and ownership housing types including apartments, attached condominiums, and townhomes.

There are provisions in the regulations that allow for designated smoking areas meeting certain criteria, such as being 25 feet from an area used by children.

The ordinance, which was passed at the January 7 Council meeting, went into effect on February 6, 2020, and is immediately effective for new units (new construction), but contains a phase-in period for existing housing units. For any existing units, the ban goes into effect on January 1, 2021.
