Volunteer Opportunities

  • Administrative Duties: Positions such as statistical data entry (burglary crimes, crime scene data, program updates), fingerprinting, microfilming, and more. Additional training will be provided as necessary.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist administrative staff in various tasks such as filing, data entry, phone answering, and miscellaneous clerical duties.
  • Computer Entry: Enters confidential information in the Concord Police Department databases. Perform routine information and statistics data entry.
  • Concord Auxiliary Radio Emergency Service (CARES): The City of Concord has established a volunteer auxiliary communications group working under the City's Emergency Management program and invites all interested Amateur Radio Operators to participate in the Concord Auxiliary Radio Emergency Service (CARES) program in our community. If you own radio equipment and would like to participate in this type of program, please email CARES.
  • Crime Scene Investigation: Assist with duties such as filing of fingerprints, reports and data entry.
  • Library Assistant: Maintain the Concord Police Department Library, process and locate new materials as they arrive, re-file documents and research new information
  • Neighborhood Patrol: Vacation house checks performed by volunteers! In addition, neighborhood patrol members tag abandoned vehicles, handicapped parking violators, direct traffic, and many other special tasks. You will wear a distinctive uniform and drive a specifically marked vehicle, complete with police radio and mobile computer. Special training is provided for this exciting volunteer position.
  • Neighborhood Watch: Working together, we are making a difference! Neighborhoods want help in learning how to protect themselves and their property. You can help by volunteering to teach them how to protect themselves and their neighbors through Neighborhood Watch. You would conduct the first informational "Neighborhood Watch Group" meeting. Strong public speaking skills required.
  • Oral Board: Participate as one of three members of a personnel board to select candidates for open police positions.
  • Pre-School Safety Program: As a Concord Police Department volunteer, you can influence pre-school children to establish safety awareness early in their lives. Use pre-approved visual aids and lesson plans that include traffic safety, stranger safety, home safety and appropriate use of 911.
  • Records Bureau: File highly confidential case records and reports. Purge and Microfilm old records.
  • Special Events: The police department sponsors many community-wide special events each year and they need your help.
  • Street Fairs, Neighborhood Events, Block Parties: Represent the Concord Police Department at various community-wide events and functions. Greet people, hand out literature, answer questions. Good public relations position.
  • Tours: Become a Concord Police Department volunteer tour guide and usher groups through this $18 million state-of-the-art facility. Highlighted areas are the Records Bureau, Jail, Communications Center, and police cars.
  • Traffic Bureau: Process criminal and traffic subpoenas and assist the Community Service Officer in administering bureau activities. This may include towed and abandoned vehicles processing, statistics, filing, and scheduling. Review written citizen appeals of a citation and render disposition decisions and complete related reporting. Conduct in-person hearing with registered owners of vehicles who have appealed the towing and 30-day impound of their vehicles. Render decision and complete related reporting.
