(Office #925.603.5865)
Summary
On Friday evening - March 27, 1987 at about 7:30 pm, Philip Zilversmith arrived home alone in his blue Mitsubishi pick up truck, parking in his apartment community parking lot at 1735 Pine Street, Concord. Having apparently just purchased some fast food for dinner, he was accosted near his truck and stabbed several times in the parking lot. Robbery did not appear to have been a motive and Zilversmith succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Philip lived alone and worked for his father at the family business, Bernard’s Natural Foods in Berkeley. He had driven the Mitsubishi pick up truck home as it was his habit on Fridays, with the intention of shopping for produce over the weekend for the family market.
This case was extensively investigated in the months that followed and several theories were explored but no suspects were ever developed. It appears Philip was attacked by one person who he did not know or recognize, and the stabbing occurred after a very brief verbal interaction with his attacker.
