Multi-family Complex Recycling in Concord
The City of Concord has partnered with Concord Disposal and Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC) for a second year
to roll out residential recycling programs at more multi-family
complexes across the City. Concord's innovative outreach program
involves communicating with tenants new to recycling on at least
four separate occasions with picture-based information about which
materials can be recycled and where to put them. After distributing
outreach materials, staff visits each complex individually to talk
with tenants face-to-face. Personal appeals coupled with multiple
exposures to simple, clear graphics explaining the program have
resulted in successful recycling programs.
A variety of graphic materials are used for the rollouts:
- Door hangers
- Refrigerator magnets
- Toter stickers - containers
- Toter stickers - paper
Concord's innovative program was highlighted by the Northern California Recycling Association at their February 4, 2004 Annual Recycling Update.

Commitment forms (Word version) and (PDF version) are available if you are interested in participating in the program. For more information about Concord's multi-family recycling outreach program, contact Jeff Roubal at jeffr@ci.concord.ca.us or telephone (925) 671-3394.
