Interviews
Most programs hold interviews and hire the majority of staff during March and April. Applications are, however, accepted throughout the summer to fill vacated positions. Deadlines for specific programs are listed below.

Tennis & Swim Summer Day Camp
As of 5/9/08 there is one Counselor I position still open. Submit your application right away to be included in the interview process for this position!
Concord Community & Recreation Services operates a Tennis and Swim day camp program in Concord during the summer months. It combines two great summer-time activities into one program! Our popular Tennis Camp is combined with recreational swimming at Concord Community Park. Campers start the morning off on the courts with lessons, fun and games offered by Aztec Tennis. The Tennis and Swim staff takes over the group at noon for lunch, open tennis play and recreational swim. Open to participants’ age 7 to 14.
General Requirements
Applicants must be available to work June 12 to August 15. Staff is also required to attend a Pre-Summer Training Workshop. All applicants are required to have a current TB clearance (within the last 24 months). Some positions require a current Community CPR and First Aid Certificate, or be able to obtain one before the start of program.

Counselor I & II
$7.44/hr. - $9.26/hr
17 and older
20 to 25 hours a week
This position assists the Director in organizing and leading activities. The individual participates in all activities and swimming. Must be able to initiate interaction with children and provide for the safety of the children. Experience in working with children in a daycare or classroom setting is preferred. Participation in a day camp program and high school course work or extracurricular activities in leadership or child development is highly valuable. Must possess a current California driver's license or ID. TB and fingerprint clearance required for employment.
Site Director
$15.22/hr.
21 and older
20 to 25 hours a week
Job Description
The Director's responsibilities will include: Facilitate the daily activities and snack. Plan and implement the daily activities with the input of the Counselor I. Collect and administer all paperwork for program (such as registrant emergency information, liability waivers, Injury forms etc.) Provide Program Coordinator a weekly calendar of activities. Ensure the overall safety and well-being of all participants. Organize and gather supplies for scheduled activities.
Job Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
Experience working with elementary and middle school youth in an academic and/or recreation setting. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of good class management practices and youth development. Have experience teaching leadership skills to youth. Be able to establish a positive rapport with both students and parents. Have good organization and time-management skills. Be CPR and First Aid certified, or be able to obtain certification before the start of the program. Must possess a current California driver's license. TB and fingerprint clearance required for employment.
Aquatics
The City of Concord has two municipal swimming pools, Concord Community Pool at 3501 Cowell Road, and Meadow Homes Pool, on the corner of Sunshine Street and Detroit Avenue. We are looking for dynamic, customer-friendly individuals to join our aquatics staff this summer. Applicants need not apply with certification, but upon passing the oral interview will be required to successfully complete the Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Training Course. The City of Concord provides this course to new employees at the cost of $125. The City of Concord is a client of Ellis and Associates. The aquatics staff has won numerous awards in state lifeguarding competitions and is proud to have you join the team.

Must be willing to work any day of the week and/or split shifts. Positions are part time with a minimum of 25-30 hours.

Swimming Instructor

Swim School Instructor
$9.07-$10.01/hr.
16 and older
Responsibilities include conducting swim school classes and/or water safety classes assigned by the Supervisor/Swim School Manager. Assigned job duties are performed under a minimum of supervision and generally require you to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid and current Ellis & Associates Lifeguard License (will train on site).
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
- Previous pool experience is highly desirable.
Lifeguard
$8.02-$8.85/hr.
15 and older
A lifeguard is responsible for attentively monitoring the swimming pool area activities and for taking effective and appropriate action when enforcing safety rules, making rescues and administering first aid. The lifeguard's principal duty is to ensure the safety and well being of the pool patrons and to observe and enforce all rules and regulations.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid and current Ellis Lifeguard Training license (will train on site).
- Water Safety Instructor certificate., CPR-FPR, First Aid for Safety Personnel and American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is desirable.
- Previous pool experience is highly desirable.
Pool Manager
$15.22 - $16.80/hr.
20 and older
A pool manager is responsible for seasonal and year-round operation of a community swimming pool, including the supervision of assistant managers, pool lifeguards, swimming instructors and other employees; the application and enforcement of rules and regulations governing the health, safety and welfare of patrons; the overall operation and maintenance of the pool, its equipment and facilities; the conduct and expansion of various swim instruction programs.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid and current CPR/FPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor and Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training (will train on site).
- Possess ARC Lifeguard Training, CPR/FPR or First Aid Instructor Certificate or comparable certification.
- Previous lifeguarding and instruction experience (minimum 3 years).
- Minimum of one year of college.
Assistant Pool Manager
$11.04-$12.20/hr.
19 and older
An assistant pool manager is responsible for seasonal operation of a community swimming pool, including the supervision of pool lifeguards, swimming instructors and other employees; the application and enforcement of rules and regulations governing the health, safety and welfare of patrons; the overall operation and maintenance of the pool, its equipment and facilities; the conduct and expansion of various swim instruction programs.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid and current CPR/FPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor, and Ellis & Associates Training (will train son site).
- Desirable for candidates to possess Lifeguard Training, CPR/FPR or First Aid Instructor Certificate.
- Previous lifeguarding and instructing experience (minimum 3 years).
- Minimum of one year of college.
Cashier
$8.02-$8.85/hr.
15 and older
The cashier's responsibility is the collection and accurate accounting of all admission fees and the completion of required accounting reports. A cashier is responsible for attentively monitoring swimming pool recreation activities. The cashier is usually the first staff person to meet the public, and is in a position to establish good customer service by being well informed, tactful and courteous at all times.
Requirements:
- Desirable for candidate to possess a valid and current Ellis Lifeguard Training license (will train on site).
- Strong math background is highly desirable.
Do SOMEthing
The Do SOMEthing program is run through the City of Concord's Community and Recreation Services Department. It is a six-week camp for teens ages 13-15. The program is designed to teach teens basic leadership skills, teamwork, communication skills, work experience, civic awareness, and health and fitness. Teens will spend the morning volunteering at various summer programs and the afternoon will focus on fun and educational activities. Trip to a local attraction are included. Plus, the final four days of the program will be spent in Tahoe at Camp Concord.
Site Director
$15.22 - $18.09/hr.
21 and older
Job Description
The Director's responsibilities will include: Facilitate the daily activities. Work with the Coordinator to plan activities and information designed to meet the needs of the program. Ensure the overall safety and well-being of all participants. Provide transportation for participants for all activities. Organize and gather supplies for scheduled activities. Coordinate transportation for and lead all weekly field trips. Oversee the Assistant Director and assign tasks as needed.
Job Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
Experience working with middle or high school youth in a recreation setting. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of good management practices and youth development. Have experience teaching leadership skills to youth. Be able to establish a positive rapport with both students and parents. Have good organization and time-management skills. Be CPR and First Aid certified, or be able to obtain certification before the start of the program. Possess a Class B license, or be able to obtain one before the start of the program. Assistant Director

Summer Day Camps - Elementary and Middle Schools
General Requirements
Applicants must be available to work June 9 to August 17 for Backyard Explorers and June 9 to August 10 for the ALL THAT Program. Staff is also required to attend a Pre-Summer Training Workshop. All applicants are required to have a current TB clearance (both within the last 24 months) and possess a current Community CPR and First Aid Certificate, or be able to obtain one before the start of program.

Nestled in Markham Nature Park, Backyard Explorers invites children in first through sixth grades to enjoy outdoor adventures, nature activities, swimming and trips.
Counselor II
$8.42-$9.27/hr.
30 to 35 hours per week
18 and older
Lead Counselor to the Director which responsibilities include planning, organizing, and leading activities in the areas of crafts, nature, group games and sports and the supervision of children, in grades 1st to 6th. Must enthusiastically lead activities, be an active participant in activities, trips and swim days, provide a safe, creative environment and establish positive relationships with children, parents and staff. Requires college course work in early childhood education, recreation or related field and experience leading activities in a day care or day camp setting. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have current CPR/First Aid certificates, TB and fingerprint clearance.

Concord Community & Recreation Services offers a new and exciting summer recreational program for middle school students. Activities include local excursions, enrichment classes, swimming, barbecues, sports, games, contests and various other activities.
Counselor II
$10.26-$11.32/hr.
18 and older
Responsibilities to include assist Director in: plan and implement, and engage in recreational programs for middle school youth; organize and gather supplies for scheduled activities; provide for the safety and care of the middle school youth; demonstrate, by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good class management practices and youth development; plan activities appropriate to the needs of the middle school youth; and establish positive liaison with parents.
Requirements include experience working with youth, preferably middle school youth, good health TB and fingerprint clearance. Must possess a valid California Driver license and have current CPR and First Aid certificates, or obtain one before start of program.
