Message from Mayor Bill Shinn
I am honored to serve as Concord’s Mayor for 2008. My focus this year will be on two issues of great importance to the community – public safety and quality of life.
Our most recent customer satisfaction survey indicates that residents feel safe in our community and give the city high marks for quality of life. I support putting our resources behind the projects and programs that ensure our continued success in these areas.
Concord is a city in transition. As with many cities across the nation, we are experiencing an unprecedented turnover in management staff as many of our “baby-boomer” employees retire. I plan to work with the other councilmembers to stabilize our workforce so that we can continue to provide the high level of service that you expect from us. Additionally, the very structure of the City is in transition as we make decisions about how to manage the reuse of the Concord Naval Weapons Station property. I want to thank all of you who have participated in the process so far, and hope you will continue to be involved.
We all have some level of concern about the country’s economic outlook. Together, we can make good decisions that will strengthen our business community in the face of challenges that lie ahead. A strong business community is the backbone of a thriving city, and we will continue to promote and attract business opportunities into the city.
I thank you for your commitment to our city, and for your efforts to make Concord a city of the highest quality. Remember that Concord is OUR community, and together we can continue to have a city that is innovative, inclusive and safe!
