The Department provides essential services that enhance the quality of life in our City. Staff provides engineering services, which include design and construction contract administration of City capital projects. Staff also provides current development support along with monitoring and coordinating implementation of the required mitigation measures for developments and other projects.
Department Mission
To administer effective and efficient engineering and transportation services by: 1) reviewing and inspecting developments to ensure compliance with standards and to facilitate completion of quality projects; 2) designing and managing capital projects in conformance with standards and to ensure completion within budget and schedule; 3) coordinating and facilitating safe movement of all travel modes by installing and maintaining appropriate traffic signals, signs, and markings; 4) taking actions to reduce storm water pollution.

Performs general administration of the Department and coordinates the preparation of the 10-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Design

Prepares design plans and construction contract documents, including plans, specifications and estimates, for City capital projects.
Construction

Administers construction contracts for capital projects. Inspects capital projects under construction.
Current Development

Evaluates development applications and environmental impact assessments. Issues encroachment permits for work in the public right of way. Provides information to the public on streets, sewers, storm drains, and grading.

Flood Zone Inquiry

Responds to requests for information regarding location of a property relative to the floodplain. Most requests will be responded to within two working days, depending on the location of the property.

Monitors and coordinates the implementation of the required mitigation measures for developments and other projects.
Building
Ensure that buildings are constructed and maintained in accordance with adopted codes, standards, and policies.
