Historic downtown offers a pedestrian-friendly location for shopping, dining and entertainment.
A major regional shopping destination
Several key factors make Concord a dynamic regional marketplace. Concord's strong demographic, central location and daytime employment make Concord a attractive retail destination. Concord, with its convenient access to the county populace and plentiful free parking, has become the retail hub for the county's expanding consumer base.
Concord is in a class by itself when it comes to new car sales. From BMW to Mini Cooper and from Honda to Hummer, many of Concord's 18 new automotive dealers are leaders in sales within their brands.
Major shopping centers and an attractive downtown provide outstanding opportunities for megastores, discount clubs, department stores, specialty shops, supermarkets, restaurants and lodging facilities of all kinds.
Sunvalley Shopping Center
With more than 1.4 million square feet and parking for 7,400 cars, Sunvalley presents over 150 stores and restaurants. This impressive two-level mall-more than one-quarter mile long-includes such major retailers as Macy's, bebe, H&M, JC Penney, Sears, The Disney Store and Ambercrombie & Fitch.
Willows Shopping Center
An attractive, 284,000 square-foot outdoor shopping center, the Willows provides parking for 1,335 vehicles. Major stores and restaurants include Panera Bread, Claim Jumper, Benihana, Pier One, Old Navy, REI and Any Mountain. The center is also home to the Willows Theatre.
Park & Shop
Located in the heart of Concord, Park & Shop hosts more than 50 businesses in a 425,000 square-foot facility. Stores include Mimi's Cafe, Office Max, Paris Beauty College, Starbucks and Fry's Electronics.
Historic Downtown
Concord is the oldest city in Contra Costa County, founded in 1780 through a land grant from Don Salvio Pacheco. As part of the land grant, Todos Santos Plaza, a one block area in the heart of downtown, was designated to be the public gathering place for the new settlement.
Today, Todos Santos Plaza is the lively center of Concord's pedestrian-oriented downtown and a premier East Bay entertainment center. The area has more than 40 restaurants, from The Old Spaghetti Factory and Starbucks to the critically-acclaimed Luna Ristorante, and features newly renovated buildings such as Salvio Pacheco Square and shops at Todos Santos. The 14-screen Brenden Theatres attracts more than 1.2 million people a year. Community events and free concerts draw more than 100,000 visitors to the plaza annually.
Visitors can also experience new downtown businesses such as Panama Red Coffee Co., House of Bagels, Toscana, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Sway, and EJ Phair Brewing Co. Shoppers are treated to free parking throughout the downtown. Two parking structures provide 943 free parking spaces and there is meter-free surface parking.
The downtown is also Concord's business hub. Office towers line the downtown, housing some of Concord's 27,000 employees that work within a one-mile radius of Todos Santos Plaza. The downtown BART station is a great amenity for commuters and those visiting from around the Bay Area. To learn more about the downtown and its history visit www.cityofconcord.org.
