Feel the Concord VIBE at upcoming events

Concord VIBE, the City program promoting events that appeal to young professionals and those looking for unique experiences, is sponsoring two events over the next few weeks.

This Saturday, June 24, watch over 300 participants as they compete in a functional fitness competition – Contra Costa Throwdown – at Concord High School, 4200 Concord Blvd., starting at 7 a.m. and finishing at approximately 4 p.m.

"We will have three different workouts testing the best in Nor Cal in all aspects of fitness from strength to stamina to accuracy and speed," says organizer Larry Anair of Contra Costa Crossfit. "Three different spectator viewing areas will be set up to watch the action as 30 teams of two same-sex athletes throw down during every heat. Join us in cheering on and crowning the best male and female teams across three different divisions." Tickets are $5 at the door.

Concord VIBE is also sponsoring the first-ever Concord Food Truck Cinema night on Saturday, July 8, beginning at 6 p.m. This new event is produced by Legends at Diablo Creek and combines food trucks, local bands, a wine bar, craft beer garden, and a movie, shown on a 35-foot outdoor screen. The July 8 feature film is "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and entertainment is provided by the Tamsen Donner Blues Band. The event will be held at the Diablo Creek Golf Course, 4050 Port Chicago Hwy, in north Concord. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the movie begins shortly after sunset. For more information and tickets, visit or call (916) 750-0035. Use promo code "VIBE" for $3 off any adult ticket.
