Residents encouraged to serve on Concord commissions

The Concord City Council is seeking applicants to fill openings on the Community Services Commission, the Human Relations Commission, and the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission. All terms are for two years.

The Community Service Commission has four openings. The commission reviews funding requests and advises the City Council on the allocation of General Fund and Federal Community Development Block Grant monies. Applicants must be residents of Concord or Concord’s sphere of influence who hold no other office in the City.  The commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month and more often during the spring.

The Concord Human Relations Commission has three openings. The HRC fosters equal opportunity, mutual understanding, and respect among all persons. The commission meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Applicants must be residents of Concord who hold no other municipal office in the City of Concord.

The Concord Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission has three openings. Commissioners act in an advisory capacity to the City Council on matters pertaining to public parks, open space, and recreation. The seven-member commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Applicants be residents of Concord who hold no other municipal office in the City of Concord.

Application forms and additional information about each commission is available on the City’s Web site, www.cityofconcord.org/citygov/bc/b-c.htm.  The deadline for receipt of applications is 5 p.m., Friday, June 6.

The recruitment for applicants for the Appeals Board has been continued until the position is filled.  The five-member Appeals Board meets as needed to interpret state law and uniform codes on construction standards for the city. Members must be residents of Concord, or of Concord’s sphere of influence, who are qualified in matters of building construction.
