Concord Human Relations Commission presents awards

The Concord Human Relations Commission (HRC) will present its 21st annual awards and recognition on Monday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 1950 Parkside Drive, Concord. A reception will immediately follow in the Permit Center Conference Room. 

The HRC has selected six deserving people who have contributed to the betterment of human relations in Concord. They will receive the following awards: 

  • Community Involvement (for activities that address socio-economic, environmental, multi-cultural or wellness issues to improve the quality of life in Concord): Liz Lamach and the Lions Club District 4-C3 of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, for their volunteerism in planning, fundraising and coordinating the construction of Matteo’s Dream, a playground for children of all abilities.
  • Humanitarian (for activities that support ongoing service to the community as a whole): Contra Costa Interfaith Coalition, for their dedicated work in providing food, shelter and clothing to needy families in Contra Costa County.
  • Education and Awareness (for activities that promote awareness and understanding through education): Marta Flores, for her commitment to providing support and resources to families in the Monument community.
  • Youth Scholarship (for activities that contribute to improved human relations in Concord. This category includes a $500 college scholarship) Rachel Jasmin Encarnacion, for her volunteerism in the community.
  • Random Act of Kindness (for acts of kindness demonstrated in Concord): Tony Russo for his generosity in overhauling and donating computers to schools and families.
  • Women Making a Difference (for activities or works that promote the economic, physical and mental well-being of the community): Gabriela Castañeda for her leadership and involvement in providing activities and opportunities to children and families in the community.
