Vietnamese New Year celebration in Concord

The Concord Senior Center and Catholic Charities of the East Bay will host the annual Vietnamese New Year Celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Rd. from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The annual celebration has grown into a multicultural event with a variety of ethnic performances and entertainment. The program includes the traditional Tet (Vietnamese New Year) ceremony and songs welcoming the New Year by the Concord Vietnamese Seniors.

Concord Senior Center dance classes and San Pablo Seniors will perform a variety of ethnic numbers. The event also includes a fashion show featuring costumes from many regions of Vietnam.

All who attend will enjoy a traditional lunch of roast pork and banh chung or sticky rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves. The rice cakes symbolize expressions of gratitude for life’s blessings. Other items on the menu include noodles, spring rolls and other ethnic delicacies.

The event is free and open to the public. However, all seats are reserved. Tickets will be issued and must be presented at the door.

To reserve a seat for the Tet New Year’s Celebration, contact the Concord Senior Center at (925) 671-3320. For more information contact Tracy Prioste, Program Coordinator at (925) 671-3321.
