Free emergency response classes offered

Sign-ups are now being taken for 2008 free emergency preparedness classes, offered by the city of Concord in conjunction with the Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training involves six evening sessions from 6 to 9:30 p.m. for a total of 20 hours and concludes with a hands-on training exercise. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.

Session scheduled for 2008 run from February 14 to March 20, May 14 through June 12 and September 24 through October 30.

CERT participants are taught by emergency personnel in basic fire safety, disaster preparedness and terrorism, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, CERT organization, and disaster psychology. Through training, CERT members become valuable resources to their families and neighbors in the event of an emergency.
