Concord announces LED light exchange at Dec. 1 event
The first 500 families to attend Concord’s Official Tree Lighting and Mayor’s Sing Along on December 1 at Todos Santos Plaza will have the opportunity to trade in a string of old, incandescent lights in exchange for a string of energy-efficient lights. Each new string of lights is 37.5 feet long and contains 50 multicolored LED bulbs (limit of one string per household).
The light exchange is one of the measures recommended by the Mayor’s Green Ribbon Task Force and is presented by the City and Pacific Gas & Electric, a task force member. The Task Force presented its recommendations to the City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Task Force members met for six months to develop guiding principles that will improve the environment by decreasing the city’s production of greenhouse gasses, lowering the city’s energy usage, and reducing the city’s overall environmental footprint. For more information, visit www.cityofconcord.org and select Green Ribbon Task Force under ‘City Initiatives.’
The Tree Lighting and Mayor's Sing-Along takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. in Todos Santos Plaza. Entertainment starts at 5 p.m. with a sing-along at 6:30 p.m. and the tree lighting at 6:45 p.m. For more information, call the downtown events hotline (925) 671-3464 or visit www.concordfirst.org.
