Free California Symphony Pops on the Plaza concert Sept. 15
The city of Concord hosts the eighth annual California Symphony Pops in the Plaza concert on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Todos Santos Plaza, Willow Pass Road between Mt. Diablo and Grant streets. The free community concert begins at 6 p.m. Concert-goers are invited to bring a blanket and picnic on the lawn during the concert or enjoy a meal from one of the many restaurants near the park.
Dan Ashley, anchor for ABC 7 News, will emcee the event. The family-friendly program includes music from swing to jazz, movie themes, Broadway tunes and a special guest appearance by keyboardist Jonathan Cain from the band Journey and a 30th Anniversary tribute to “Star Wars.”
Come early and visit with members of ARF’s Pet Hug Pack – therapy pets who comfort abused children, victims of violence and the elderly.
Concord will also kick-off Free Wi-Fi Week (Sept. 15-19) at the event. Concord is among the first in a handful of California cities to deploy a municipal Wi-Fi network delivering free Internet access to residents, businesses and visitors. Initially rolled out in April, the network is now two-thirds complete. Attendees can visit the MetroFi booth for a network demonstration, to have questions answered and to find out about more Wi-Fi Week activites and demonstrations.
The California Symphony is proud to have been named “Best Symphony” by the editors of Reader’s Digest magazine. Since 1986, the fully professional California Symphony has brought world-class music, renowned artists, innovative arrangements and award-winning composers to the San Francisco Bay Area.
