The deadline for submittal of applications was Thursday, Aug. 23, at 5 p.m.

The following 19 candidates have submitted applications: Edi Birsan, Guy Bjerke, Keith Brown, Robert M. Bruce, Charles F. Carpenter, Vikki Chavez, David J. Current, Robert C. Hoag, David C. Kahler, Robert S. Kosloff, Roy A. Larkin, Ronald Leone, Ursula Luna-Reynosa, Michael R. Pelosi, William Seaver, Chris Tang, Susan L. Walls, La Shawn B. Wells, and Harmon C. West.

Candidate applications will be posted on the city Web site at www.cityofconcord.org(see the News and Events box).

By state law, the City Council has until Sept. 4, 2007 to appoint a new councilmember or to call for a special election, which would take place in February 2008. At its regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 4, the City Council will vote to select a candidate from among the applicants. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, the City Council will call for a special election in February 2008.
