Dec. 9, 2020 - Concord City Council Certifies Election Results
The Concord City Council on Tuesday voted to certify the results of the Nov. 5, 2020 general election. During the annual transition meeting, the Council typically rotates the Vice Mayor into the Mayor’s role and selects a new Vice Mayor. This year, instead of rotating these roles, the Council approved Vice Mayor Dominic Aliano’s motion to retain Tim McGallian as Mayor for the year ahead.

Sept. 30, 2020 - Concord to Reopen Playgrounds Oct. 1
Under the new State guidelines announced this week, the City of Concord will be reopening its 19 playgrounds on Thursday, Oct. 1. Public Works staff is inspecting and preparing all playgrounds today, and installing new signage indicating usage rules designed to keep people safe from the spread of COVID-19.

July 29, 2020 - City Council Places Measure Q Extension on November Ballot
The Concord City Council voted unanimously (5-0) to place a local revenue extension measure for voter consideration on the November 2020 ballot. If enacted by voters, the measure would extend the City’s existing, voter-approved Measure Q local funding at a one-cent rate to maintain fiscal stability and continue addressing priorities identified by the public.

June 12, 2020 - City Ordinance Eases Restrictions on Local Businesses
The Concord City Council on Tuesday night adopted an urgency ordinance approving the Concord Forward Action Plan, which authorizes the temporary suspension of certain municipal codes and temporarily waives some fees in an effort to support local businesses that have been impacted by the months-long shelter-in-place order.

The City of Concord understands that the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order may present financial challenges for local businesses. March 13, 2020 - Concord Declares State of Emergency
Concord City Manager Valerie Barone today declared a local state of emergency in response to the public health crisis resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The City also opened its emergency operations center (EOC) at the lowest activation level to provide coordination of the City’s response to the pandemic.

March 12, 2020 - Concord Postpones March 12 Council Meeting
In light of public health concerns related to coronavirus (COVID-19) and in compliance with State and County recommendations for social distancing, the City of Concord is postponing its March 12 Special City Council meeting. The tentative new date is Tuesday, March 24.

February 5, 2020 - Contra Costa Census 2020 Training Workshops
Contra Costa County’s Census 2020 Complete Count Steering Committee is hosting a series of Regional Census Training Workshops to share information about the importance of the Census, outreach resources and tools, and how to help our community members complete the Census form. Concord will be hosting one of these workshops on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Willow Pass Community Center.

Dec. 4, 2019 - McGallian Selected as Concord’s New Mayor, Aliano Named Vice Mayor
At the Tuesday, Dec. 3 Concord City Council meeting, outgoing Mayor Carlyn Obringer turned over the gavel to Vice Mayor Tim McGallian after he was selected by fellow councilmembers as the City’s mayor for 2020. Councilmember Dominic Aliano was selected to serve as vice mayor for the year ahead. McGallian, Aliano and Councilmembers Birsan and Hoffmeister thanked Obringer for her service as mayor.

October 29, 2019 - Veterans Day Ceremony and Softball Tournament Set for Nov. 11
This Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, the County Veterans Services Office, in partnership with the City of Concord, will be hosting its 7th Annual Veterans Day Invitational Softball Tournament at Willow Pass Park. Prior to the tournament, the Veterans Day Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., organized by VFW Post 1525 in partnership with the City’s Parks & Recreation and Public Works departments.

Sept. 30, 2019 - City Announces Gregory Taylor as New IT Director
The City of Concord has announced the hiring of Gregory Taylor as the City’s new Information Technology Director. Previously, Mr. Taylor served as the IT Director for the City of Vallejo, where he oversaw city-wide technology services, including its police and water departments.

May 20, 2019 - Complimentary Energy Assessments Available
The City of Concord is proud to partner with Rising Sun Center for Opportunity to help Concord residents conserve resources, address economic inequality, and foster a sustainable world by working to address the triple bottom line - people, planet, and pathways. Local nonprofit Rising Sun does this by providing “earn-and-learn” opportunities for local youth ages 15-22 who provide no-cost Green House Calls to single-family residences throughout the community.

The City of Concord has rolled out a new website that is more streamlined and designed to help users find what they need quickly and easily. While the website address remains the same – www.cityofconcord.org – the look has been refreshed and the organization of information and tools has been designed for maximum efficiency.

April 3, 2019 - Concord Senior Center Showcases Classes and Activities
The community is invited to the Concord Senior Center (2727 Parkside Circle) to try out classes and activities on April 29, 30, and May 2. Admission is free as the event is sponsored by the Concord Parks & Recreation Department and the Concord Senior Citizen’s Club. Participants will be able to experience hula, line dance, yoga, tai chi chih, pocket sketch, sewing, mixed media, pinochle, pedro, billiards and other activities.

The Concord City Council has announced the opening of recruitments for the Commission on Aging, Community Services Commission, Concord/Pleasant Hill Health Care District Grant Committee, and the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission. The deadline for applications to be received by the City Clerk's Office is Friday, April 26, 2019, at 5 p.m.

March 19, 2019 - Concord Community Pool Reopens Following Replastering Project
Grab your bathing suit, towel and goggles – the Concord Community Pool (3501 Cowell Road) is now open! Thanks to a recent replastering project, which was completed in March – a month ahead of schedule – and a pool deck renovation that was done in spring of 2018, Concord swimmers have their pool back and it’s better than ever!
